We help 7-figure Founders tackle their next growth horizon and build the right foundations for scale, succession or exit.

Why would you need an Advisory Board?

1. You want to prepare to step up, step back, or step out.

Perhaps you’re planning to accelerate, step back and install management to reap the dividends, or sell some or all of the business.  It’s a difficult task and you want to get it right. You’re conscious that everyone you're currently getting advice from is either inexperienced or biased and you know you need quality, independent advice to ensure you navigate the path successfully.

2. You lack the necessary expertise to grow

You have ambitious plans but you and your team haven’t been there before and therefore lack the experience and knowledge to take you to next level. Your growth plans could involve a major directional change, a significant investment, a capital raise, market expansion, or you’re already experiencing rapid growth and need to maximise the opportunities in front of you.

3. You just know you can do better.

Perhaps your business is hitting a plateau, growth has slowed down, margins are growing thinner, or the market has become more difficult. Building a business that scales often requires a fresh and deeper look at your business model, execution practices and leadership.  Getting the right Advisors around the table can help you get back on the path to optimal growth.

Who aren’t Advisory Boards for?

An Advisory Board might not be for you if:

• You’re uncomfortable having your ideas rigorously challenged by passionate experts who speak openly·
• You’re not predisposed to taking actions to move your business forward·
• You’re looking for people to lend their credibility to your business for the benefit of staff or external stakeholders only·
• Your business is engaged in legally or ethically questionable activities·
• You’re at risk of insolvency

If this is you, you won’t derive value-for-money from having an Advisory Board. You may want to consider a consultant, CFO, or other expert who’s a better fit for your immediate needs.

How does an Advisory Board work?

The main purpose of establishing an Advisory Board is to get the right team to provide quality, non-binding strategic advice to help you grow your company. They’re working towards your success, and you’re not giving up any control or equity in the business. An Advisory Board serves a different purpose to a Board of Directors (or Governance Board).
Some of the key differences are:

ADVISORY BOARD

BOARD OF DIRECTORS

A problem-solving model

A decision-making model

Generally growth-focused

Blend of risk and growth-focused

100% focused on helping you achieve your personal goals for the business

Must consider and protect wider shareholder and stakeholder interests

Typically 3 years

Permanent

Flexible structure and the Advisor composition will change to fit your priorities as and when required

Rigid structure and Director composition which is often difficult to change at the same speed as your needs change when scaling
